langtree care home

Langtree Care Home in Standish is a 2,840 ft² private-healthcare landmark by Alessandro Caruso Architecture and Interiors Ltd, in collaboration with Arise Millennium Construction Ltd, completed in 2025. Born from a shared vision between Alex Caruso and Omair Haider, it reimagines pandemic-proof care as a warm, dignified home—woven with biophilic spaces, adaptable clusters, and light-filled communal areas that nurture wellbeing and community.

vision & Concept

“We set out to design a care home, but what we created is a place where life unfolds with dignity, joy and connection; a true home in every sense.” Alex Caruso.

Here, you’ll uncover how Langtree Care Home grew from a moment of shared empathy into a nurturing design. Through site studies, hand sketches and biophilic mood boards, ACA translated the brief—“home, not institution”—into spaces defined by dignity, joy and community.

design evolution
As the concept for Langtree Care Home took root, the challenge was transforming the vision into a tangible, buildable space.

Early sketches gave way to collaborative workshops with the client, residents’ families and care staff. These sessions revealed the importance of intuitive way finding and adaptable communal areas; spaces that could host both quiet reflection and lively gatherings.

The design evolved through a series of models and digital renders, each iteration refining the balance between openness and intimacy.

A key feature was to orient the building with communal areas to maximise garden views, to use the open terraces as birdwatching areas and to ensure every resident could connect with nature from their own room.
Light, Flow & Belonging
Light was ACA’s guiding principle. Large windows and glazed doors flood communal spaces with daylight, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and connecting interiors to the changing seasons and natural circadian rhythm. The layout was designed for clarity and flow: a central corridor branches into smaller, neighbourhood-like clusters, each with its own lounge and access to the gardens. This spatial arrangement promotes both community and privacy, allowing residents to choose their level of engagement. Circulation spaces are generously proportioned and free of clutter, supporting mobility and independence.
Materiality & Atmosphere
Material choices were central to shaping the home’s atmosphere. ACA selected natural materials for the external finishes to complement the interior design scheme including soft textiles and warm, tactile finishes that evoke comfort and familiarity. The overall experience fosters a sense of domesticity, subtly referencing the textures of a well-loved home rather than an institution. Durable yet inviting, they were chosen to withstand daily use while maintaining a welcoming, human scale.

vision & concept overview
To communicate the evolving design, ACA used a blend of hand sketches, physical models, and immersive 3D renders. These tools allowed the client to experience the space before it was built, fostering a shared understanding and excitement. Interactive presentations helped stakeholders visualise how materials, light and landscape would come together, while detailed diagrams clarified technical aspects for the construction team.
